Exciting and busy times for the Barcombe Bonfire Society as our night is just 7 days away! If you are a member there is plenty of preparations to get involved in. Please look out for your e-mail from Charlie.
We invite you to our Annual General Meeting at 8pm on Tuesday 21st February in the Royal Oak Top Room, Barcombe.
If you want to see Bonfire back in Barcombe in 2017, the time to step up is NOW. This is the last chance to ensure that there is a Barcombe Bonfire this year. So please attend to find out how you can help. While we need committee members, no offer of help is too small. Be it fundraising, making torches or building the bonfire, organising events, fusing fireworks, welding a tar barrel, printing and distributing publicity, coming up with ideas, admin behind the scenes or simply donating space or materials we would love to hear from you.
Please see BBS plan of year-round jobs to get a flavour of what’s involved.
We also need to fill the following positions for this to happen:
– Company secretary/directors
– Membership secretary
– Fundraising secretary
– Sussex Bonfire Council representative
– General committee members
– Bonfire Co-ordinator
– Health & Safety Officer
– Captain of Bonfire
– Captain of Fireworks
– Captain of Procession
– Captain of Ranks & Bands
– Captain of Banners
– Captain of Barrels
– Captain of Collection
– Captain of Programme
– Website Manager
A person can hold multiple positions but the more people the better! Please see BBS Job Descriptions 2017 written by people who have held the positions in the past to get an idea of what a role entails.
At the meeting positions will be elected, accounts reviewed, jobs assigned for the year and the date for Barcombe Bonfire 2017 will be chosen.
At Lewes Bonfire Night, for Borough Bonfire Society, the members of the BBS who shook a bucket for charity collection, helped to raise an incredible £1,400 for the Bevern Trust, Families with Autism and St Johns Ambulance. What a difference that will hopefully make to those charities! #proud
If you fancy the idea of becoming part of the BBS Committee or want to see what it is like, our committee meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, in our H.Q. pub, The Royal Oak, Barcombe at 8pm.
We would love to have more bodies and brains to keep the BBS going. Please let our secretary, Charlie, know if you are interested.
As many of you are aware, there was no Barcombe Bonfire Night 2016. This was due to lack of man power and funding.
Bonfire nights are a huge part of English and Sussex tradition. But they don’t happen over night. A whole years worth, and more, of fundraising ploughs into the money pot for one very special night. Let alone all the time spent organising and putting on events, making the torches, BBS and crosses etc.. All of our committee members work tirelessly throughout the year to create a night to remember.
If you love Barcombe Bonfire as much as we do, please help as much as you can. We will be happy to teach you the bonfire ropes if you really fancy getting stuck in! Helpful hands are needed all year round.
